I just discovered that Ps does not preserve metadata in .png (ditto acrobat in .pdf). this discovery really throws me for a loop. it seems that one of the most important issues facing graphic artists and their companies is Digital Asset Management (DAM). there is a tremendous proliferation of files in even my small (architecture) office. i researched DAM solutions and elected to use Bridge, even given its limitations, for DAM.

Bridge simply is not a DAM system. Lightroom is not, either. There are fundamental differences between a dedicated DAM app and browsers like Bridge or library managers like Lightroom. Strongly recommend "The DAM Book," by Krogh. It's a great introduction to DAM and clearly explains why anything less than a DAM tool is doomed to fail.

My company tried many tools and we arrived at Canto Cumulus many years ago. It's not a product I recommend because many superior tools have entered the market since.

We have successfully exported all fo our metadata out of Lightroom using DNG (not PNG). PNG does not seem to have the capacity to carry XMP so I presume you would need to use a sidecar XMP file. I do not know if that's practical for you.

DAM is a VERY difficult topic.
