I find it is best to have unique entries in the manifest.xml file for name =, label =, description =, propertyDescriptionFile =, and localization =. Unique compared to other manifest.xml files in the panels folders.
To clear internal caching after changing the manifest.xml file, I suggest:
- quit all applications that use File Info
- remove the custom panel folder
- launch an application that has File Info, launch File Info
- quit all applications that use File Info
- place the revised panel folder into .../3.0/panels (it is lower case "p" on my mac)
Often, people start with the Generic Panel from the sdk and make as few changes as needed. The apparent caching in the File Info 2.0/3.0 code seems to get confused when identical entries are used in multiple Generic panels.
